Preparing your site for a pool: what to expect

From the first cut to a clean, level hole — a practical look at how a pool excavation comes together on a residential block.
A new pool is one of the most rewarding backyard upgrades you can make, and the excavation is the first real step. Getting it right sets up the whole build, so it pays to know what is involved before the machine arrives.
We start by confirming the pool’s footprint and finished levels with you and your pool builder. Over-digging means extra concrete to fill; under-digging means hand trimming later. A clear plan keeps the hole exactly where it needs to be.
Access is the other big one. Compact machinery can reach backyards that larger excavators cannot, but we still need a clear path in — fences checked, branches trimmed back, and a plan for where the spoil will go. On many jobs the soil is trucked off site; on others it is spread and levelled elsewhere on the block.
Once we cut, the hole comes out clean and close to finished levels, ready for your pool builder to set the shell. It is a surprisingly quick process when the planning has been done up front.
