Tight-access excavation: getting machinery where trucks can’t

Tight-access excavation: getting machinery where trucks can’t

A 1.7 tonne excavator opens up side gates, narrow backyards and awkward corners that full-size machinery simply cannot reach.

Most Sunshine Coast blocks are not the wide open paddocks you see in machinery ads. They are suburban yards with side gates access, established gardens, retaining walls and the odd clothesline that cannot be moved. That is exactly where a compact excavator earns its keep.

A 1.7 tonne machine is small enough to travel through a standard side gate and light enough that it will not tear up your driveway or lawn on the way through. Yet it still has the reach and breakout force to trench for utilities, level a pad or dig out a pool — the jobs that would otherwise mean weeks of hand digging.

Before we start, we talk through access. How wide is the gate? Is there a slope? Where are the services running? A quick walk of the site up front means fewer surprises once the machine is in, and it keeps the work tidy and predictable.

If you have been told your job is “too tight for machinery”, it is worth a second look. Tight-access excavation is what we do every day on the Sunshine Coast.
